On the evening of Monday 24 October 2022, the ELEMENT team presented the project and informed the local French community of Belz of the temporary deployment of Nova Innovation’s RE50 tidal turbine in the Etel estuary for testing purposes.

Citizens were informed of the local engagement activity through the local municipalities’ billboards as well as through the local newspaper whereby “Ouest France” published an article on the project and informed the locals of the upcoming event. To view the publication, click here.

The 75 citizens who participated to the event were heartily welcomed by the following ELEMENT team:

  • Gabrielle Fouques (project engineer at CBS)
  • Nicolas Ruiz (R&D programme manager at FEM)
  • Mélusine Gaillard (Scientific Communication Officer at FEM)
  • Annig Lehnertz (business analyst at IDETA)

The participants were offered a flyer on the project, which also included an optional survey aiming to collect the local community’s observations on tidal and other sources of renewable and non-renewable energies. The meeting kicked off with Yannick Bian’s opening speech that provided the context around tidal energy. Nicolas Ruiz then presented the project and explained where and when the tidal turbine will be tested. The slides from the day are available here. At the end of the presentation, the participants were invited to ask their questions, which led to Nicolas Ruiz and Yannick Bian answering around 30 questions on the topic. To continue the discussion in a more informal manner, the meeting concluded by inviting the participants to the local oysters’ buffet where smaller casual groups were formed to further discuss the subject.

This event is the first local community engagement activity on the project in Brittany. Other local events will be organised. For the tasks and deliverable of the socio-economic work package, IDETA will analyse the survey results and detail the local community engagement activities in a report at the end of the project.

Activité d’engagement de la communauté local à Belz, Bretagne

Au soir du lundi 24 octobre 2022, l’équipe ELEMENT a présenté le projet et informé la communauté locale de Belz du déploiement temporaire de l’hydrolienne RE50 de Nova Innovation dans la ria d’Étel pour la tester.

Les citoyens ont été informés de l’activité d’engagement local par le biais des panneaux d’affichage des municipalités locales ainsi que par le journal local « Ouest France » qui a publié un article sur le projet et informé les habitants de la réunion publique. Les 75 citoyens qui ont participé à l’événement ont été chaleureusement accueillis par l’équipe suivante d’ELEMENT :

Les participants se sont vu offrir un dépliant sur le projet (cliquez ici) qui comprenait également une enquête facultative visant à recueillir les observations de la communauté locale sur l’énergie hydrolienne et les autres sources d’énergies renouvelables et non renouvelables. La rencontre a officiellement commencé à 18h00 avec le discours d’ouverture de Yannick Bian qui a posé le contexte. Nicolas Ruiz a ensuite présenté le projet et expliqué où et quand l’hydrolienne sera testée. Pour voir les diapositives, cliquez ici. À la fin de la présentation, les participants ont été invités à poser leurs questions. Nicolas Ruiz et Yannick Bian ont répondu à la trentaine de questions posées par le public. Afin de poursuivre la discussion de manière plus informelle, la réunion s’est conclue en invitant les participants à une dégustation d’huîtres locales où de plus petits groupes ont été formés pour approfondir le sujet.

Cet événement est la première activité d’engagement de la communauté locale sur le projet en Bretagne. D’autres événements locaux seront organisés. Pour les tâches et les livrables du lot de travail socio-économique, IDETA analysera les résultats de l’enquête et détaillera les activités d’engagement de la communauté locale dans un rapport à la fin du projet.
